Type 1 Diabetes occurs primarily during childhood and adolescence and is an Autoimmune disease. A person with Diabetes Type 1 is able to eat everything, but she/he needs to know how many CARBS and SUGARS are contained in this food so he/she knows how many units of insulin are needed. We can’t survive without insulin, so the person with Type 1 Diabetes gets insulin either through an injection pen or a pump. Why carbs? Because carbs become sugar after you eat them, and your body uses them as energy.

This memory game presents 22 kinds of food: some increase the blood sugar and some don’t. The idea behind this memory game is to teach the diabetic child, his friends, his parents, his family and everyone else around him/her in a playful way which food contain carbohydrates and which don’t. How many grams of Carbs does an apple contain for example? A table with this information is helpful for an adult, but a child? This memory game allows kids and adults to learn while playing.

So the idea is to help people get more familiar with Diabetes Type 1, and help them understand that not only bonbons, chocolate and juices contain sugar!
