Type 1 diabetes occurs primarily during childhood and adolescence and is an Autoimmune disease. A person with Diabetes Type 1 is able to eat everything, but she/he needs to know how many CARBS and SUGARS are contained in this food so he/she knows how many units of insulin are needed. We can’t survive without insulin, so the person with Type 1 Diabetes gets insulin either through an injection pen or a pump. Why carbs? Because carbs become sugar after you eat them, and your body uses them as energy.

This Mug presents some foods with carbs. The idea behind it is to teach the Diabetic child and his friends, his parents, his family and everyone else which food contains sugar and how many grams of Carbs an apple has for example? My friend’s child is diabetic and is coming for a visit, how do I know what food contains how many carbs? I can check it out on my mug! And where is this mug? It’s always in the same place in the kitchen cupboard!

So the idea is to help people get more familiar with Diabetes Type 1, and help them understand that not only bonbons, chocolate and juices contain sugar!
