My Diabetes Infos

Type 1 diabetes occurs primarily during childhood and adolescence and is an Autoimmune disease. Diabetes is a journey, with many highs and lows, and lots of trial and error. But your child lives normally, grows normally, eats, dances, travels, etc.. My daughter was 2,5 years old when she got diagnosed with Diabetes Type 1, one month before she should enter the kindergarten. At that time, we had 2 choices: either she stays home until we know how to better deal with diabetes or we send her to the kindergarten and coordinate with the teachers so my daughter can have a normal childhood life. We chose the second option. I crafted a booklet about her diabetes containing: how she feels / looks when her blood sugar is low, what the teachers need to do when her blood sugar is high or low etc… and this booklet helped them a lot and now they are able to manage her diabetes very very well.

So this is how I came up with the idea of this booklet for the Kindergarten and schools  ” My diabetes infos ” The secret code to keep my blood sugar in tip top shape” where I chose 22 important questions for the parents to answer so to make Diabetes easier and more familiar to educators and teachers. Of course, it is also helpful for grand parents, family and friends where the child with Diabetes could be staying often.

Because Diabetes is a journey, the more you live with it the more you know how to manage it, and because it varies from a person to another, I created this booklet.
